Sheck was born in Harlem, New York to Senegalese parents who immigrated to the United States before he was born. The rapper was raised in a Muslim household and his father worked as a tailor in the city.
Sheck and his family remained in Harlem until he was five years old before he and his mother moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The reason, his parents felt Harlem wasn’t fit for their child to grow up in while they worked throughout the day and night.
Sheck would return to New York most summers and then again permanently when he was around 14 years old.
Wes attended Norman Thomas High School for Business and Commercial Education. There he played varsity basketball and was very good. However, he also had a passion for fashion modeling at the time. So much so that he skipped a playoff game to attend the unveiling of the Yeezy 3 collection.
Also while in high school, Sheck created a rap group and began rapping. Concerned about his well-being, Sheck’s parents sent him to Senegal around this time to further pursue his Muslim faith. Although, he’d soon return to start making music full-time.
