Early life

Donte Greene was born on February 21, 1988, in Munich, Germany. He was still a kid when his parents divorced in the mid-1990s. His mom used to serve for the National Security Agency. He lost his mother in October 2001 who died due to a heart attack. Then, he shifted to Baltimore County with his father and brother.

Earlier, he studied at a school in Japan. After some time, he returned to Germany and then relocated to Hanover, Pennsylvania. Donte completed his high school graduation from Townson Catholic High School in 2007.

Greene was selected as USA Men’s U18 National Team member in June 2006. There, he helped the USA Men’s team win the game and grab a gold medal at the 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. He was named Maryland’s 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year and was also named to the team of Nike Brand All-American. Additionally, he was selected as one of the team members who would play in the 2007 Jordan Classic.

Donte was again selected to play on Team USA in the U19 World Championships in 2007. He appeared in eight contests with an average of 4.3 points and 1.5 rebounds. Nevertheless, the USA Team could not get the gold medal as they took home the silver after losing to Serbia. Greene appeared in all 35 games in his freshman year of college. He was the first Syracuse freshman who led Syracuse in scoring. Along with that, he also set a new SU freshmen record for the 3-pointers in one season.

Greene scored a season-high 27 points in a victory against Robert Morris in March 2008. However, after that, he struggled to maintain his good form in Big East play by making a short percentage of 28.6 from downtown. Donte eventually became the country’s second-highest-scoring freshman duo along with Jonny Flynn.

Donte was selected in the 2008 NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. However, Memphis later traded him to the Houston Rockets. He was signed by the Rockets in July 2008 and made 40 points in his first summer league game at the Thomas & Mack Center. In August 2008, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings. In January 2009, he was assigned to the Reno Bighorns. Greene scored 26 points in a 93-91 win against the Bakersfield Jam in his debut game with Reno.

Greene was then signed with the Atleticos de San German for the 2013 BSN season in March 2013. However, after playing just one game, he left Atleticos in April 2013. After that, the Memphis Grizzlies signed him for the remainder of the season in April 2013. Later in August 2013, he was traded and exchanged for Fab Melo in the Boston Celtics. However, the Celtics waived him on September 17, 2013.

Donte joined the Brooklyn Nets in July 2014 and started playing for the 2014 NBA Summer League. Then, he began playing for Dubai’s club, Al-Nasar for the 2014-15 season in December 2014. Greene was signed with the Saudi Premier League’s club, Ohud Median in May 2016. In October 2021, he was signed by the Taichung Wagner Suns of the T1 League.

Greene has recently been in a new controversy after he was arrested for attempting to rob a gas station clerk in Indiana. The former NBA player is charged with attempted robbery. According to the Goshen Police Department, Greene lunged at a Phillips 66 gas station clerk and demanded he gives him all his money. The police received a call around midnight on November 8 from the Phillips 66 gas station. Greene was arrested by the cops as soon as they arrived at the gas station. Later, the cops booked him into Elkhart county jail.
