Hope Amelia Solo was born in July of 1981 in Richland, Washington to parents Jeffrey and Judy Lynn (née Shaw). Her father is a Vietnam veteran who was in and out of her life throughout her youth. Notably, her parents got divorced when she was six years old.

In 1988, Solo and her brother Marcus were picked up by their father in what ended up being a kidnapping. However, Hope was able to reconcile with her dad prior to his death in 2007.
