Kunal Nayyar was born in April of 1981 in Hammersmith, London, England to parents Rakesh and Heita. Both of his parents are immigrants from India, where they returned when Kunal was three.

The actor grew up in New Delhi, where his parents remain to this day. There, he attended St. Columba’s School and played on the badminton team.

Nayyar moved to the United States in 1999 to attain a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Portland. Notably, he began acting in school plays at this time.

Interestingly, Kunal decided to become an actor after taking part in the American College Theater Festival. Afterward, he enrolled at Temple University where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in acting.
