Early life

Tate McRae was born on July 1, 2003, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She was born to a Scottish father and a German mother. She spends her early childhood in Oman.

While living in Oman, she learned to dance from her mother. By reaching age six, she started training in recreational dance. As she grew up, Tate became more interested in dance. She even took part in the dance competition with Drewitz Dance Productions.

Tate has trained herself in all dance forms from a dance company YYC Dance Project. The dance company was owned by her mom. She even took classes ballet from the School of Alberta Ballet. As a dancer, she has grabbed many awards, starting from the 2013 Dance Awards. She also danced in platinum-certified singled Rule The World.

McRae received the Best Female Dancer Award for the second time at the 2015 Dance Awards and the third time at the 2018 Dance Awards. Tate earned wide recognition after reaching the finale on the popular reality show So You Think You Can Dance. She was the first Canadian to stand as a finalist on the show.

McRae is also a gifted singer. One of her first single “One Day” gained 35 million views on YouTube. The song was even certified Gold in Canada. After early success, she continued to upload self-written songs on her YouTube Channel. Her other songs Dear Ex Best Friend and Dear Parents also became very popular.

After releasing few hit singles on YouTube, she was noticed by RCA Records. The music company signed Tate under their label in August 2019.
