Early Life

Josh Kiszka was born on April 23, 1996, in Michigan. He was born five minutes before Jake, his twin brother. The siblings were raised in a household that promoted creativity and grew up surrounded by music and literature. After their parents provided him and his brothers with a vinyl playground of early blues and rock music, his interest grew in music. Along with his brothers Jake and Same, Josh started playing different instruments from a very young age.

Josh along with twin brother Jake and younger brother Sam as well as Kyle Hauck had formed the band called Greta Van Fleet in 2012. This name was inspired when one of the band members had a relative by the name of Gretna Van Fleet. Some of their early songs which were released include Cloud Train and Standing On. Later on, Hauck would leave and Danny Wagner would enter the band as the main drummer.

Josh is the lead vocalist of the band and voices most of the songs that they create. After producing several songs and EP’s, their band would be signed with Lava Records in 2017. Soon after signing, they released the EP called Black Smoke Rising. That same year, they also won the award for Best New Artist during the Loudwire Music Awards. It was also in 2017 that they released the EP called From the Fires.

This EP became a big success and featured popular songs such as Talk on the Street as well as Edge of Darkness. In 2018, they went on to release their debut album called Anthem of the Peaceful Army which became a top-selling album in its debut week managing to sell more than 80,000 copies. The success they received resulted in them being nominated for four Grammy Awards as well. In late 2020, they went on release their second album called The Battle at Garden’s Gate.

Personal Life

Other than his love for music, Josh is also passionate about filmmaking. He has mentioned that he loves to write, direct, and edit videos. When asked what he would be doing if he were not in the band, Josh mentioned that he would be writing short films and producing them too. In his early years, he has some experience in the theater too since he played in the play Willy Wonka in 2013.
