Early Life

Erica Mena was born in November 1987 in Newburgh, New York. She was born to her parents, Sonia and Brian. Her father was a drug dealer. Mena’s mom was imprisoned after her dad forced her to sell drugs. In fact, she was born while her mom was in prison.

Mena has been a victim of sexual abuse as a toddler which ended when her mom was released from prison. In an interview with Rolling Out in 2014, Mena shared that her sister, Lisa, who was 15 years older than her actually held her down.

Erica had an interest in modeling from an early age. She won MTV’s Jennifer Lopez Look-Alice contest when she was 14. Then, she decided to make a career as a model. She eventually got modeling work in different agencies. Afterward, she also gained fame as a video vixen by appearing in various hip-hop music videos. She has appeared in music videos for renowned artists, Chris Brown, Akon, Fabolous, and Fat Joe.

Then, she received mainstream success after she was featured in the reality series, Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami in 2009. Following that, she appeared in the original installment of the Love & Hip Hop franchise, Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2011. She began appearing in the series during the show’s second season. In Season four of Love and Hip Hop: New York, she started dating singer, Cyn Santana. However, the two split up in season 5. Then, she became engaged to rapper, Bow Wow in 2014. Nevertheless, they ended their relationship and called off their engagement in late 2015.

Erica found her new love interest in rapper and TV personality, Safaree Samuels. She became engaged to Samuels on Christmas Eve in 2018. They turned into a married couple on October 7, 2019. Together, they share a daughter, Safire, and a son, Legend. She filed for divorce from Samuels just a month before her son was born.
